Prior to joining the SGSA, Guy worked for a range of regulatory authorities in the UK and New Zealand. This includes 10 years for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as an Inspector and Principal Inspector, where he was the Regulator for Workplace Health and Safety within the Kent region. This role involved visiting a wide variety of industries, from small construction sites to large engineering manufacturers, investigating or managing investigations of serious workplace incidents, including fatalities. Guy’s role involved presenting prosecutions in Court and providing evidence in Coroners Court to ensure the HSE were able to deliver justice to injured persons and their families when health and safety breaches in the law were identified and in the public interest to take enforcement action. Between 2019 and 2022, Guy worked for the land transport regulator in New Zealand. This role included the rail industry and vehicle inspection organisations (equivalent to the UK’s Office of Rail and Road, and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency). More recently Guy worked at Transport for London (TfL) in the Safety, Health and Environment team as a Senior Business Partner looking after governance, risk and assurance. Guy helped the proportionate management of risk across TfL’s operational teams and led the ban on non-foldable e-bikes across TfL’s rail network. Guy is currently working with several clubs and Local Authorities in London and the South East region. He is also leading SGSA’s work with stadium sector health and safety matters, including working with key stakeholders across the industry. Guy is a Certified member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
