Home / News / New SGSA Board Member Announced New SGSA Board Member Announced Professor Aoife Hunt MBE has today been announced as the new Board Member for the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA). Aoife is a Professor of Crowd Safety and Security Science at the University of Greenwich. She brings a wealth of experience and expertise, being a leading specialist in crowd dynamics, simulation modelling and emergency evacuation strategies. Speaking about her appointment, Aoife said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to the SGSA Board. I am passionate about crowd safety and the vital work that SGSA does in the UK and internationally. With my experience in crowd safety, security, research, and guidance development – as well as my corporate board experience – I am eager to support the board in achieving its objectives and enhancing safety at sports grounds everywhere.” Derek Wilson, Chair of the SGSA Board, said: “Aoife is a world-renowned expert in crowd dynamics. Her appointment to the SGSA Board is fantastic news and her insights will be invaluable as we strive to enhance safety at sports grounds. I am thrilled to have such a skilled and passionate individual joining us on this important journey. As part of the Board, the role is to oversee the SGSA to ensure that the organisation complies with statutory requirements and to establish and oversee the overall direction of the organisation. The appointment is for a three-year term, and is made directly by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.
