Women’s football consultation

The SGSA has launched a consultation into women’s football – Ensuring consistent safety levels.

This is the first step towards implementing the recommendation within last year’s independent review of women’s football by Karen Carney MBE which stated that SGSA licensing is extended to include the Women’s Super League.

The closing date for responses is 22 April.

Since 2019, the SGSA has worked with women’s football clubs and grounds to enhance safety procedures.

The recommendation in the Carney report will formalise these arrangements, with both primary and secondary grounds in the Women’s Super League licensed and grounds in the Women’s Championship receiving enhanced support and guidance.

The aim of this consultation is two-fold:

  1. Information gathering

We want to get a better understanding of the safety management arrangements at grounds in the Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship.  We have produced a questionnaire which we would like all grounds (both primary and secondary) in the Women’s Super League and Championship to complete.

  1. Opinion gathering

We want to gather initial views on how the implementation of SGSA licensing and wider support for women’s football can be achieved.  We have produced a consultation document which outlines our early considerations and suggestions, which we would welcome your comments on.
