Football Governance Bill published

The Government has today introduced the Football Governance Bill in Parliament, which outlines details of a new Independent Football Regulator.

This Regulator will focus on the financial stability of men’s professional football.  It will have three core principles:

  • Improving financial sustainability of clubs,
  • Ensuring financial resilience across the leagues, and
  • Safeguarding English football’s heritage.

Speaking about the announcement, Ken Scott MBE, SGSA’s Interim Chief Executive said: “The Bill is an important step in securing the financial stability and future of football in England Wales. The new Independent Football Regulator will provide assurance that fans are at the heart of the game.

“Whilst our remits are different, the SGSA will work closely with the new regulator to provide support and advice as needed, particularly where financial and safety issues overlap.”
