In 2017, SGSA Inspectors conducted a review of two stadiums in Malawi. The visit was conducted on behalf of FIFA, to provide an independent, expert opinion on the physical infrastructure and safety management processes at Bingu National Stadium and Kamuzu Stadium. As part of the review, the team: Conducted a safe capacity calculation for the stadium, and Made recommendations to improve safety. The SGSA was contracted to complete the work following a tragedy at Bingu National Stadium where eight spectators died and dozens more were injured in a crush as spectators rushed for seats ahead of a match. A report was presented to FIFA and the Football Association of Malawi outlining a number of recommendations to be introduced to address safety issues at the grounds.
