Sad passing of Darren Whitehouse

Everyone at the SGSA is deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of our colleague Darren Whitehouse.

Darren was an ardent advocate for sports grounds safety and was a fantastic member of the SGSA team.

Since he joined the SGSA in 2017, he worked alongside countless people across the sector  to promote and enhance safety, building relationships with organisations across the UK and around the world.

Most recently, Darren led the sector in a stewarding project aimed at boosting the training and opportunities for stewards not only in football, but across the events industry.  He was seconded to the Premier League  to lead this critical work.

On a personal level, Darren was a devoted Aston Villa fan and an avid board game collector and player, regularly entertaining the team on his latest find.  He will be sorely missed by us all at the SGSA.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends at this sad time.
