Honour for SGSA Inspector

Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) Inspector Lou Elliston has received a British Empire Medal in this year’s New Year’s Honours List, for services to sport and public safety.

Lou has been an inspector with the SGSA, and formerly the Football Licensing Authority, since 2002.  She covers clubs across London.

Speaking of receiving her award, Lou said: “I’m honoured to have the BEM in the New Year Honours List. I have had a wonderful career in the Metropolitan Police where I really enjoyed my public order work, followed by the Football Licensing Authority, now the SGSA. The movement of crowds has always fascinated me, which led me to obtain a masters degree in public order and public safety has to be our priority.

“I really enjoy supporting all the people I work with to ensure our sports grounds meet these aims and this honour is a testament to the work we are doing.”

Martyn Henderson, Chief Executive of the SGSA, said: “This is a well-deserved honour for Lou.  She has dedicated many years to ensuring safety at sports grounds. It is great that her contribution has been recognised in this way.”
