Sport without spectators – general guidance

This guidance offers advice and direction to local authorities and stakeholders in hosting sporting events with no spectators during the current COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

In addition to this document, we have produced separate guidance specifically for the hosting of designated football matches.

The guidance covers a number of issues including:

  • General Safety Certificates, including a standard condition for insertion into certificates
  • Safety and security considerations
  • Medical and first aid provision
  • Health and safety at work
  • Media provision

The guidance is being issued to help Safety Advisory Groups consider what actions may need to be taken following Government’s publication of Stage Three guidance on return to domestic competitions for elite sports.

We will keep the guidance under review and may issue updated guidance as and when required.
