Safety and academia

The Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) is inviting academics to be part of its next Academic Advisory Panel.

The focus of the Panel in 2020 will be fan engagement, accessibility and women’s football.  The next meeting will take place in April and will focus on one of these areas.  The SGSA is looking for views on these topics, along with details of any active research in these areas.

The SGSA started its forum in September 2019 as a way to bring together academics with an interest in safety at sports grounds to discuss issues of common concern.  The first meeting focused on the whether and how the behaviour of fans is changing.

Martyn Henderson, Chief Executive of the Sports Grounds Safety Authority, said: “The use of relevant data and evidence is key to our commitment to being the world’s leading authority on sports grounds safety.  We want to use this Panel as a way to identify and promote academic research on particular areas of interest as well as taking forward discourse in these areas.”
