Promoting safety across Europe
The Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) has signed a new partnership agreement with the European Stadium and Safety Management Association (ESSMA) to support the further development of safety and security of football stadiums across Europe.
The partnership will support the continued growth of safety and security expertise within ESSMA member organisation and contribute to SGSA’s expertise as a regulator of safety and expert body on sports grounds safety.
Amongst the areas of joint working will be fan engagement on safety and security where we will work together to engage fans across Europe on safety and security matters to help feed into policy development and help identify trends. We will also be working on academic research, looking at the latest research and connecting like-minded researchers. The partnership will also see us develop, co-host and accredit safety related training modules, based around our guidance documents.
Martyn Henderson, Chief Executive of the SGSA, said: “We are delighted to be renewing our partnership with ESSMA. We look forward to sharing good practice and learning from the experience of other countries to help ensure spectators across Europe have a safe and enjoyable experience when watching live sport.”
Cyril de Greve, Managing Director of ESSMA, said: “The renewal and extension of our partnership with SGSA is an important step in broadening our research network. SGSA is a global leading expert on safety and security and we’re happy to integrate their expertise into our ecosystem. Together we will further raise the bar and improve the value of our research and publications.”
ESSMA is a not-for-profit association that allows stadium, safety and grounds managers to exchange knowledge and expertise on areas such as construction, operations, sustainability and safety and security.
