Nigel Goddard

Regional Inspector - Northern Ireland

Nigel Goddard joined the SGSA in June 2025 as our Northern Ireland Inspector.

Alongside his SGSA role, he is also an Irish FA Security Officer for the national senior teams in Northern Ireland, as well as a UEFA Safety and Security Officer.

Having served 31 years in the Police after joining the Royal Ulster Constabulary in 1993 and finishing his time in the Police as a Chief Superintendent, Nigel gained a wealth of knowledge whilst working at various high-profile events.

As a Police Officer, Nigel specialised in events and public order, and public safety. During his time as the Football Policing lead for the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Nigel wrote and implemented the football policing strategy, commanded large public safety events including the Giro d’Italia, MTV Europe, and mass participation events such as marathons and parades.

Nigel is also an avid football fan and his experience as a supporter helped shape his approach to policing football from a service perspective.

Since joining the SGSA, Nigel supports partners within Northern Ireland, working together to improve safety at sports grounds by assisting clubs, local authorities and partner organisations to help maintain high levels of spectator safety.
