Lou Elliston joined the Football Licensing Authority (now SGSA) on the 1 April 2002.
After 30 years’ service she retired as a Superintendent in the Metropolitan Police in January 2001 and spent the following year assisting with training for crisis contingency planning.
During her police career she specialised in public order from minor events to major demonstrations and marches and was a police football commander. She also worked in the public order branch at New Scotland Yard for three years developing contingency plans for public order events in central London.
As well as police related qualifications, she obtained an M.A. in Public Order from Leicester University.
At some time, she has been responsible for all the London based clubs and those along the East coast as far as Norwich. In April 2016 she partially retired reducing her working to three days a week.
She received a British Empire Medal in the 2019 New Year’s Honours List, for services to sport and public safety.
