Fan-led Review of Football Governance published

The Government has published its independent review of football governance, which explores ways of improving the governance, ownership and financial sustainability of clubs in the football pyramid.

This review, led by Tracey Crouch MP, identified 47 recommendations.   These included:

  • Creating a new independent regulator for English football, which oversees financial regulation in football.
  • The regulator should also establish new owners’ and directors’ tests for clubs.
  • Improvements to equality, diversity and inclusion in clubs, assessed by the regulator.
  • Women’s football being treated with parity.

The SGSA welcomes this thoughtful report of the fan-led review into football’s governance and look forward to supporting Government as it considers the review’s recommendations.

The SGSA was consulted during the review.  Our Chief Executive, Martyn Henderson, and Head of Inspectorate, Ken Scott, spoke to Tracey Crouch MP along with members of the expert panel.  This was also supplemented by a written submission specifically related to drinking in view of the football playing area.  This submission can be read in full below.
