Evaluation of stewarding challenges

The SGSA has published new research on the motivations of becoming a steward and the challenges they face.

The research was conducted by 2CV, funded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS). It consulted with stewards, both past and present, and identified five overarching motivations that drive people to becoming a steward:

  1. Companionship/connection
  2. Variety of the role
  3. Passion for the sport/event
  4. Terms of employment
  5. Sense of service

The research followed work conducted by the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) which undertook an assessment of the post-COVID stewarding challenges facing the sector.
