Former SGSA Inspector, Keith Sears has been awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours list 2018 in recognition for his services to sport.

Keith retired from the SGSA last year after 27 years of service. He was appointed as Head of Policy and Safety Certification shortly after the organisation was formed and was charged with establishing the organisation and working with the football bodies, local authorities and clubs, to set out how safety at football should be regulated.

He was integral to the development of the 4th edition of the Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds (Green Guide) and subsequent editions which have influenced safety at sports grounds around the world.

He spent his later years as an SGSA Inspector, sharing his knowledge and experience directly with clubs and local authorities, before retiring in the summer of 2017.

Karen Eyre-White, SGSA Chief Executive said “Keith truly deserves this honour. He has made an  enormous contribution to improving safety for the millions of people that go to sports grounds each year.

“I would like to extend our gratitude from all at the SGSA, and the wider sector, to Keith for his enduring commitment to keeping people safe, and many congratulations for this very well deserved award.”
