Sports Grounds Safety Authority Response to the Joint Consultation
Sport is an essential part of our national culture and thanks to the dedication and commitment of all those that work in sports grounds safety, the UK is one of the safest places in the world to watch live sport. Keeping people safe requires constant vigilance.
In February 2017, the SGSA issued a consultation that sought the views of stakeholders on:
- Part 1 - The implications of a review of the term ‘safety’ in the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975 which explained that safety is a broad term which means that all people present at a sports ground during an event are protected against dangers of physical harm or injury arising from being present. This includes everyone at a sports ground being protected from the risks from terrorist activity, crowd disorder and anti-social behaviour.
- Part 2 - The SGSA’s discharge of its oversight and licensing powers under the Football Spectators Act 1989 and a draft SGSA Oversight and Licensing Policy.
